A Crochet Journey
1/30/2025
Well, it's January 30, and I am completely over this month. I honestly feel like it has been at least 100 days longer than the 31 days that appear on the calendar. How does that happen? I'm an elementary school music teacher in Arkansas. Since we got back from Christmas break, we have had one and a half snow days, I had a professional development day away from school (so I didn't see any students), and we have had a holiday. The weather is now back in the 50's-60's, but dreary and rainy. We are all a little grumpy and need to get some vitamin D and some time outside.
Thank goodness for fiber arts crafts like crochet. After a long day it's nice to come home and pick up some yarn and a hook and crochet for an hour or so until I'm relaxed enough I that can finally begin to unwind.
So, I started a CAL (Crochet-Along) for teachers at my school. The plan is to meet a couple of times a month. We just had our second gathering this week. So far, several beginners have joined us as well as several seasoned hookers. Don't worry, "hookers"is a nickname for crochet-ers due to the fact that we use hooks to create amazing projects. Keeping it family friendly, here. It's been a lot of fun destressing with colleagues right after school before the drive back home. During our first couple of meetings I shared the basic chain and the single crochet stitch with beginners. I created a scarf pattern for the group to help learn the single and double crochet stitches and get plenty of practice with stitch placement. Check back soon under the "Patterns" section of the site to get that pattern. I am excited to see what projects everyone creates as they grow in their Crochet Journey.
